Early 19th Century Wedgwood Hand Painted Plate, 1812
An exquisite early 19th century Wedgwood cabinet plate, dating to around 1812, beautifully hand-decorated with a vibrant display of butterflies amid delicate floral sprays. The composition is finely balanced, with each creature individually painted in rich enamels and heightened with subtle gilt detailing, all framed by an elegant scalloped rim picked out in gilt.
This decorative style reflects the Regency taste for natural history and chinoiserie-influenced ornament, making the piece as appealing to collectors of British ceramics as it is to those with an eye for refined interior decoration. Plates of this type were often produced as ornamental “cabinet pieces” for display rather than everyday tableware, which adds to their charm and collectability today.
Condition: Very good antique condition with minor age-related wear and gentle rubbing to the gilt, consistent with over two centuries of age.
A striking and elegant example of early Wedgwood decorative porcelain, ideal for display in a China cabinet or as a statement piece in a period interior and a fine addition to any collection of English ceramics.
