An charming piece of traditional Italian faience pottery, this hand painted Majolica earthenware jug displays vibrant, Renaissance inspired decoration featuring winged grotesques, scrolling foliage, and floral garlands set against a bright tin glazed white background.
The front face features a central yellow cartouche framed by leaves reading "BEVI POCO" (Drink Little), an Italian maxim common on traditional wine and spirit vessels.
Features an ornamental twisted rope design around the spout collar leading to a forward-facing cylindrical drinking nozzle/spout, along with a strong, green-painted braided strap handle.
Intricately hand-painted on all sides with vivid cobalt blue, ochre yellow, burnt orange, and copper green tin-glazes.
Condition: Good antique condition showing authentic signs of age appropriate for hand-thrown earthenware, including minor glaze wear/fretting around the rim edge and base, and natural unglazed terracotta showing on the underside base.
